Hello There! I’m Ben!
I’m a Southwest Virginia based photographer and professional third wheel. Okay, kidding on that second one, sorta. I’m a believer that people and the moments of their lives are the greatest of God’s Creation. I believe that God’s work is on display the best in moments like a couple perservering through challenges to finally celebrate their wedding, a small business owner’s hard work finally paying off and launching their business, or a family celebrating simply being together. Being blessed with helping to preserve these moments in time through photographs is what I honestly believe to be my calling in life.
My love for photography was one that I never saw coming but am beyond glad that it happened. It started with me making an honest attempt at capturing a sunset while I was on the lake with my phone. At the time I thought the picture belonged in a museum after I’d finished editing it and the passion to create more was lit. I should make note that the picture I just mentioned was not of museum quality, or honestly even something I’d be willing to post to Instagram now, but I’m thankful for it regardless. Fast forward a couple years and my parents gifted me with my first actual camera for my birthday. Moving forward yet another couple of years, this hobby that started as a side interest to my dream career of being a full-time musician has quickly become my primary occupation. My love for the photography world and all the people I’ve met through it has blessed me in a way that I don’t think I could have ever imagined. Creating the photos is only a small part of this to me, forming genuine friendships with my clients and others that I meet is what made this become my passion in life.
Here’s some random facts to get to know me more!!
I - I’ve been a musician, primarily as a guitarist, for close to fourteen years now.
II - I am a Type 4 on the Enneagram.
III - My dream vacation currently would either be to the Canadian Rockies or a trip to Iceland. If you want to do a session in either just remember that I travel. Just saying.
IV - The best album of all-time is U2’s Joshua Tree. You can debate me all you want here, I stand my ground.
V - I will never turn down an opportunity to get ice cream.
VI - I’m an animal lover and would be more than happy to have them along with us for a session.
VII - My favorite movie of all-time is 17 Again.
VII - I’m a proud and true nerd. Feel more than welcome to strike up a conversation about the latest Star Wars or Marvel show around me!
IX - I am a distance runner, no I haven’t ran Boston...not yet at least. It’s on my short-term bucket list.
X - I’ve been told that I’m an excellent friend to have deep conversations with and seek counsel from. If I wasn’t pursuing the creative life as a photographer and musician I would likely be a counselor.
